For many years, the People’s Republic ofChina and the Netherlands have been maintaining a friendly and constructive relation in the fields of trade, science, technology and culture.

China is developing in every field and is aiming to achieve high imports and exports for which a sophisticated infrastructure level in the field of Railway-Road-Inland waterways and Ports are essential.

As part of the overall plan to develop ports in China, the Chinese Government has lately decided to develop YangshanPort in Shanghai for the specializedcontainer handling. It was with pleasure that I noted the initiative from the Dutch side to establish “The Sino Netherlands Platform” as an instrument to offer their support and services to the Chinese parties responsible for this particular project.

Where Shanghai and Rotterdam has had a Sister City Relation for many years, Rotterdam is a world-famous port and the reputation of the Dutch constructors is of a high reputed level, I feel sure that this is an excellent basis for a fruitful cooperation based on mutual benefits between our two countries for the port development in my country.

I therefore wish “The Sino Netherlands Platform” a good future in playing an important role in the development of the Yangshan Port Project in Shanghai.
